The brighter side of cooking

Assalam o alaikum,

Do you like cooking? The answer will definitely be a ‘yes’ after reading this Hadith. =) And for all those females who whine about having to cook and daughter-in-laws-to-be who are dead freaked out by everything ‘kitchenette’, this hadith is going to make your day!

Volume 1, Book 2, Number 11:

Narrated ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr:A man asked the Prophet (SAW), “What sort of deeds or (what qualities of) Islam are good?” The Prophet replied, ‘To feed (people) and greet those whom you know and those whom you do not know’.

Only two things to work on here, not that you aren’t already practicing them. 😉 Now if you can’t cook anything, you can get your name in this list by helping in cooking/setting the dining table, getting the groceries or chopping the veggies, etc. Try your hand at everything!

Coming on to the next part, the best greetings are is ‘Assalamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuhu’: Peace and Allah’s Mercy blessings be upon you. It’s a dua for the person you’re passing by or going to talk to. Now who doesn’t want blessings in times like these? Moreover, you earn 30 hasanaat (good deeds).

If you say ‘Assalamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullah’, you get 20 hasanaat.

And if you say ‘Assalamu ‘alaykum’, you get 10 hasanaat.

So it’s your choice. I’m off to make popcorn for my sister. What’s cookin’ at your end? 🙂
